Raoul Pal, a former Goldman Sachs executive and current CEO of Real Vision, recently shared a video update on the adoption trajectory of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, projecting exponential growth in the coming years. According to Pal, the pace of adoption of cryptocurrencies far outpaces that of the internet in its early years.
Pal bases his analysis on a comparative model between the rate of internet adoption and the growth in the number of cryptocurrency users since 2016, the year in which the first million users were registered. While the internet grew at a rate of 76% annually in its early stages, and then slowed to 43%, cryptocurrencies have been growing at an impressive rate of 137% annually. To date, the number of cryptocurrency users has reached 516 million, surpassing the 187 million that the internet had at the same point in its evolution.
Pal suggests that even if the growth rate of cryptocurrencies were to slow to match that of the internet, it would reach approximately 1.1 billion users by the end of 2025. However, the expert anticipates that the adoption rate could be even faster. Looking to the future, Pal's model projects that by 2030, cryptocurrency adoption could include half of the world's population, or about 4 billion users.
